This book gets its own entry because it's the best book I've read this year. I know it's early in the year, but I've read a lot of books so far and this one is AMAZING.

The Ruin of Delicate Things "Barrington Hall is a place of secrets—something Dan Morgan has worked hard to forget. But when a heart-breaking loss brings him back to the place where he spent his childhood summers, Barrington Hall will do what it must to make him remember.

Faye Morgan blames her husband for the death of their teenage son. She doesn’t want to leave the place Toby called home. But after she catches a glimpse of a strange boy in the midnight woods and learns of his connection with Barrington Hall, her need to learn more pulls her further and further into a nightmare world filled with past atrocities and the burning flame of revenge."

This a true dark fairytale. The grief and pain is in every word of the story. There is also a deep rage and a need for revenge. The descriptions in this book are fantastic, evoking visceral feelings. Some quotes for examples:
"Dan laughs, punching his best friend on the shoulder as they run home through the tail end of the thunderstorm, the scent of wet earth, like a freshly dug grave, crawling in their footsteps."

"The real world had teeth and claws and wasn't afraid to use them to grind you down into a minced-up version of who you had once been."

"Dan knew she was lying. Faye knew she was lying. The uncomfortable wedge slid between them like a thorn through flesh."

TW: death, torture, child death, drowning
